Notification of Impact on Figaro Products Due to Partial Nonconformity of UL Certification Registration of PBT Resin "Planac"

Update:2020/11/17
Category: Product news

On October 28, 2020, Toyobo Co., Ltd. announced that UL certification will be rescinded in a sequential order from today for its polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) resin "Planac". This action was taken due to the discovery that some performance data of the products actually sold do not match the performance data certified and registered by Underwriters Laboratories (UL), a third-party safety science organization in the United States. For more details, please refer to the following Notice published on the website of Toyobo., Ltd.:

We would like to report the impact and countermeasures for our products in which "Planac" is used:

1. Products

Figaro products that have obtained UL certification:

- TGS3870

Figaro products that use "Planac" (the sensor has not obtained UL certification):

- TGS3830

- TGS6810

- TGS6812

- CGM6812

2. Impact on Figaro products

UL certification for "Planac" was rescinded. As a result, Figaro products that use "Planac" will no longer be products that use UL certified materials. However, Figaro expects that there is no problem in actual use with our molded product shape since it possesses sufficient flame retardancy, so we plan to continue shipping our products as before. We are currently confirming and evaluating alternative resins of other companies, and will continue to take necessary measures in the future.
